Stress Relief Workshop

On March 16th, I attended the Honors and PsiChi event called Stress Relief Workshop. It was hosted by Mohini and Honors mentors Anna — the President of PsiChi — and Gianna, next year’s PsiChi Secretary. During the Powerpoint presentation, the three organizers spoke about how stress manifests itself in our behaviors and what can be done to reduce it. For example, I learned that behaviors such as a change in eating habits can be a sign of stress and not just an independent event. This event was an excellent break from a storm of midterms and assignments. Learning about stress and what it actually is really helps in finding out ways to reduce it. Another thing I learned was that everyone has their own ways of dealing with stress — there’s no right or wrong! As long as it’s a way to take care of yourself during difficult times, it’s a good way of dealing with stress. Lastly, the three hosts told us that “fine” isn’t an emotion and it doesn’t help to introspectively figure out what is happening within you, which I never thought about before. The suggestion put forth was that when someone asks you how you are, tell them how you’re actually feeling. Fine isn’t an emotion, but happy is!
