Why You Should Care…About Your Self-Care

The 2024 Spring Semester for Pace University is slowly coming to a close and it is no surprise what this means. Finals are around the corner, one of the most stressful times for students across all majors and all years. During this time, it is important, now more than ever, that students, faculty, and staff practice beneficial routines for their mental well-being. By taking care of one’s mental health, their quality of studying and life will improve significantly. To acknowledge this, Pace University hosted a self-care event, hosted in the Student Center of the One Pace Plaza.

The Spirit Emphasis Day event at Pace University was an event hosted by Student Engagement. It was meant to establish importance on one’s mental health and routines that students can implement into their daily routine to improve one’s general well-being. In order to do this, they had an assortment of exciting activities for all Pace students to participate in!

Firstly, the Spirit Emphasis Day event featured a Spinning Wheel in which attendees won free prizes that they could take home. The event had an assortment of varying prizes all meant to help with student’s organizational tactics—something that has been proven through extensive studies to heavily assist in stress related to one’s academics. From school supplies, such as notebooks and pencils, to other fun items including pouches and sticky-note pads, there was a wide assortment of what we could take home.

Also, upon entering the event, a large table with Playa Bowls was set up to attract the attention of students. An important aspect that can be overlooked when it comes to the well-being of an individual, is their physical health. With the consistent workload of multiple college courses, it can sometimes be challenging to balance taking care of one’s physical well-being, while prioritizing their academic endeavors. These Playa Bowls were free for all who attended the event and proved to be a popular attraction for the Pace University student body. The event, finally, featured free sessions of acupuncture, a proven method to de-stress key parts of the body.

Overall, the Spirit Emphasis Day was certainly a way for the Pace University community to effectively alleviate stress following this midterm season and while heading into the intense week of finals that lie ahead.
