My Freshman Year of College: I Couldn’t Have Done it Without My Comfort YouTubers

With finals looming ahead, reflecting on the past midterm season can offer valuable insights into effective strategies for success. There are precisely three things that got me through midterms: copious amounts of coffee, attending professors’ office hours, and last but not least, my comfort YouTubers. The ritual of unwinding with their uploads after long study sessions is the perfect way to de-stress. So, in the hopes that this strategy may also work for others, I wanted to share my list of comfort YouTubers that can possibly bring you some peace, and help you get through the Spring 2024 finals season!

Starting this list off strong, let’s talk about Ashley, who is better known as @bestdressed on YouTube! Her fashion videos have fascinated me since 2019, including, “30 BACK TO SCHOOL OUTFITS (yes it’s that time of year, i’m so sorry),” “how to put together an outfit 101,” and “what i actually wear in a week (casual ootw).” For those who are grappling with the imminent beginning of post-grad life, (congratulations, seniors!) Ashley is a great person to look to for reassurance that everything will be ok. On her channel, she has documented life after college including breakups, the pandemic, and moving to New York City as a “20-something… clinging to her glory days when she won the ‘best dressed’ senior superlative.” Although she is not actively uploading to YouTube anymore due to mental health and privacy reasons, she is still immersed in the fashion world and collaborating with brands on another social media outlet, Instagram.

Hannah Elise is a new favorite creator of mine, as I started watching her uploads last Summer. As an incoming college freshman, I was searching for tips on how to be successful during my first year of university, and I stumbled upon her video “productivity tips from a straight-A college grad (spilling all my secrets).” My favorite aspect of Hannah’s videos is that her content is centered around “encouraging you to love your own company.” In addition to productivity tips, her videos include solo travel vlogs and day-in-the-life vlogs in New York City, where she lives. Solo content is a really refreshing perspective, because most influencers would rather document fun outings, brand trips, and time spent with their friends, and the time they spend in their own company is not as frequently publicized.

If the channel name TmarTn2 sounds familiar to you, you probably recognize it as a popular gaming channel. Trevor Martin, the man behind the channel enthralls his viewers with Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto content, but he has a separate series on this channel called Super Cooper Sunday, that’s dedicated to his dogs Cooper and Koda, and his cat, Bella. The Super Cooper Sunday series is one of my go-to YouTube searches when I need a little bit more positivity in my day. Some of my favorite uploads in this series are “DOGS TRY ON SHOES FOR THE FIRST TIME (SCS #130),” “DOING OUR DOGS’ 200 FAVORITE THINGS,” and “Buying Everything My Dog Touches at the Pet Store.” I have been following along with this series since the very first ‘Super Cooper Sunday,’ where Trevor brought a puppy Cooper home for the first time. It’s amazing to see how far they have come since those days; now, Cooper is a full-fledged dog-fluencer, even sponsored by BarkBox!

I’ve saved my favorite YouTuber for last, although my opinion may be a little bit biased. One of my best friends from my hometown, Jeanette, started a YouTube channel this year at the handle @jeanetterosenthal. Even though she has only uploaded five videos, she’s amassed about seventy subscribers; talk about rapid growth! And for good reason: her content, which is mainly day-in-my-life vlogs centered around college life at Syracuse University, is super engaging. As a university student in New York City, sometimes I love escaping Manhattan and living a more traditional, on-campus college experience through her lens.

I tried my best to make this roundup super diverse, including YouTubers who make content on everything from fashion, to travel vlogs, to gaming. I really think there is something in here for everybody, and hopefully one of these creators resonates with you and becomes your new favorite channel to follow!
