Recently, Pace University gained a new advisor for the Pforzheimer Honors College, Emma Klainberg-Orlick. Emma previously worked as an advisor, from around August of 2018 until May 2021, before moving to Virginia, leaving New York for the first time in her life, as she was born and raised here. Although she originally worked with students that were studying in the Seidenberg School of Computer Science and Information Systems, she is now in charge of giving input to all the students in the Honors College students that are studying Humanities in the Dyson College.

Emma says that there are various aspects about working at Pace University that she thoroughly loves. For instance, she truly loves the proximity that Pace University has to the Manhattan area. Since the New York Campus of the university directly neighbors the Brooklyn Bridge, getting to prime locations around the city proves to have virtually no difficulty. Additionally, Emma comments that she truly, “loves the sense of a smaller community within a larger university,” in her new role. Working for the Honors College specifically, there is a strong familial bond that unites all of its students together, that is essential for college success among incoming students and upperclassmen alike.

However, Emma’s ultimate favorite attribute regarding her new role would be the relationship that is developed between the students and their respective advisors. She mentions that she truly appreciates how students can, “meet with their advisors in order to break that unfamiliarity,” that usually comes with the incoming students, who are transitioning into the college experience for the first time. Furthermore, this even applies to students in different stages of their college careers, as there are always new obstacles, opportunities, and responsibilities that they need to tackle to reach the new step in achieving their aspirations.

Moreso, Emma has numerous hobbies that she participates in outside of her role at Pace University. For example, one of her favorite things to do in her passing time is singing. She notes that while she does not sing competitively, that music is something that she very much enjoys. Not only that, but she also sings acapella with other individuals like her, which shows just one more community that she is a part of. Moreover, Emma is an avid collector of cookbooks. She says that she finds them very interesting and genuinely enjoys finding new editions.

Conclusively, Emma wishes to share some advice for incoming freshmen who want to find their own group of like-minded people on campus to build their own community. She says that the best way to is, ‘to go out of your way to socialize with others and to gain experiences,” to find clubs and activities that you know that you love to do and be a part of. The Pace University Honors College is truly excited to work with Emma as the newly appointed advisor and is truly fortunate to have her as a part of the team.
