Undecided Major Experience

by Maddie McCool ’25

Those of us with undecided majors generally get a reputation for being lazy, careless, or having no motivation for our futures. I, however, humbly yet firmly disagree with each of these stereotypes. When I entered into a new phase of life back in September, I thought I had it all planned out. Despite being listed as undecided, I intended on changing my major to something along the lines of musical theater or history. However, without realizing it, my first semester made me reevaluate everything I wanted for myself. The class environments and subjects of study were things that I had never experienced in my small hometown. My plans for myself may not have worked out in the way my twelve-year-old self had imagined, but I wouldn’t want it any other way. As I go into my second semester, I now know so much more about who I am and what I want to be. Discovering my passion for writing has brought me much more mental freedom and excitement than I ever could have imagined. Had it not been for the out-of-the-box classes and experiences given to me at Pace, I believe I would be more confused about my future than ever.
