Entering a new city can be both daunting and intimidating. With so many experiences to have, places to explore, food to eat – It can all be overwhelming. As a freshman here at Pace, I have found ways to experience the city that introduced me to its vast culture. Of course, it is always cool to see the tourist destinations you have watched for years on all types of media, such as Central Park, Times Square, the World Trade Center, and more; though I found that exploring the different boroughs and neighborhoods is just as exciting. Scrolling through the “NYC” tag on Tiktok and Instagram has brought me to so many places I would never think to go, like the comic book store in Astoria, Queens, under the N train, or Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Using social media as a tool is especially helpful when exploring the city, and it is even better when you bring a friend with you. Make an effort to take trips to random destinations on the subway, and explore different places in Manhattan or other boroughs. The public transportation in NYC is great at bringing you to many places, and you can easily explore all five boroughs through the subway system. Watch a game at Yankee stadium, attend plays on or off Broadway, take walks in the many parks around the area, and let your curiosity guide you. There is never not something to enjoy in the city, so make it your playground!
