In New York City, the air is crisp, just like the ice on the ground. According to that devilish groundhog, we have about a month left of this chilling season. Here at Pace, we know even the cold can’t stop the trends of the future from taking over the student body. Students are tired of covering their masterpieces with sweaters and layering. Fashion is cyclical: soon enough tank tops and miniskirts won’t be hidden under fluffy furs and puffy jackets. To brace Pace for the upcoming spring season, I interviewed my suitemates for their takes on what’s to come for Spring Fashion.
Spring has not sprung, but here in Suite 2104 we like to pretend it has. We’ve read up on what is and what’s going to be trending. Some basic points observed were:
- Patterns in abundance and mis-matched shapes and colors seem to be very thrilling for the editors at Vogue.
- European-summer-inspired looks are exciting minds and preparing readers for not just spring, but beyond.
- Thrifting is, of course, still very much in. Maximalists agree that finding anything and making an outfit is how we will wear our clothes in the tomorrow.
- Per the resurgence of indie sleaze, fringe is back. I like to think a blend of Woodstock age fashion and the 365-party girl look will sweep the fashion scene in 2025.
I am very excited to see what the streets will hold come 60 degrees and above weather. My first year in the city of all cities has been inspiring and eye opening; I like to think my personal sense of style is improving day-by-day. But enough about me, let’s hear from the experts themselves.
“Okay. Spring. Fashion. Takes. Interview. Let’s go.”
Of course, Celine Ioffe had to make an appearance:
“Let’s get it. I’ll preface this: by saying all fashion is beautiful, and if it’s your own style, own it. Confidence is fashion.”
“That’s a bar.” I replied. “Okay: spring fashion. This is spring in a very broad fashion; spring has not sprung.”
My roommate, Emma Kapiotis, chimed in:
“Okay, my thing is I’ve started rejecting winter. I’ve started wearing only one jacket, like thin jacket, crop top, no layers… unless I’m going out for a long period of time.”
Celine: “Headscarves.”
Emma: “I don’t wanna talk about trends because I don’t want them to go mainstream, but I think what’s trending and what’s going to start trending is obviously gonna be polkadots, which everyone has already been predicting for the past two years. But I think it’s gonna happen this Spring, unfortunately. Been trying to gatekeep.”
Me: “Yeah that was me with capris. I was trying to gatekeep them for so long.”
Emma: “I think capris kinda had their moment last year.”
Celine: “Everyone knows micro shorts are everybody’s favorite thing in the world, but I think biker shorts will come back.”
Me: “Biker shorts. Interesting.”
Emma: “I’ve been into wearing patterned pants under ripped jeans so, it’s like still layering, but you can also see the patterns through the jeans.”
Celine: “Also jeans with like, really sick designs, like I’m sick of basic jeans and people just wearing basic jeans like, make them your own and be unique.”
Me: “I’m sick of jeans, honestly. Like bring back pants. Not even cargos, like colorful pants; I miss that. I think we need to bring that back. I think a nice pop of color needs to come back.”
Celine: “Yeah bring color back 2025.”
Me: “Oh yes, I remember this woman on the subway was wearing khaki shorts, a navy-blue oversized sweater with a v neck, a white tee, some cool shades, these cute platform brown loafers, and then these socks. They were hot pink. It was the perfect pop of color to her outfit, it truly brought together the whole piece.”
Celine: “Also statement jewelry of course.”
Me: “Statement jewelry will definitely carry into summer. I feel like spring they’re going back very like, 60s-esque fashion.
Emma: “That’s what I keep telling you: the polkadots, the capris, the like, the dresses with that vintage silhouette of the 60s, you know what I’m talking about?”

At this point, we had a phone-in conversation from a suite fan favorite, the Ella Kadz herself.
Ella: “Okay, spring trends: #1, I better see some ties out on the street. Yeah, that’s what I’m seeing. I also want everybody to be uniquely themselves, I want it to be wacky I wanna see colors. I wanna see beautifully, like, green, like… I just want it to be an explosion of fun. Bring whimsy back, that’s what I’m saying.”
Ella continued:
Ella: “Okay, wait, here’s my thing… I’m thinking like big, sparkly nipple stickers and like a sheer top over.”
Me: “Oh wait that’s so good Ella, yes, like glitter.”
Ella: “Yes like glitter. Yeah, and also unity and peace and love, and no hatred. And boots. Let’s have a fun whimsical time, you know.”

I felt our interview was concentrated on so many ideas. We have so much to share, so look forward to more 2104 fashion interviews. With such unique personalities adding to the conversation, I like to think we have a diverse perspective on the trends of tomorrow, and what needs to stay in the yesterday.
In conclusion, the 60s are back. Especially now, in a time where social division is at a peak. “All you need is love” said 60s culture pioneers The Beatles. And it’s true, now more than ever. Let’s bring back peace and love, no matter what tries to subdue or filter it. Express yourself! Stay chic <3
