With Halloween just around the corner comes the fun activities we all enjoy during the spookiest time of year. Pumpkin carving, haunted houses, and costume parties are all essential for the perfect October, but Halloween in the city might look a bit different for a lot of New York City college students. Going to fall pumpkin patches or watching Hocus Pocus with family may not be a viable option anymore, but there are still plenty of ways to get into the Halloween Spirit.
One of my favorite ways to really enjoy Halloween, especially since I am away from family and friends back home, is to host a fun Halloween night! This is a great way to get your friends together for a night, make fun memories, and get into the Halloween Spirit! I’ve curated a list of fun Fall nights you can achieve from the comfort of your suite, dorm, or apartment.
Paint Pumpkins
- Carving real pumpkins can be messy and eventually cause mold…something we can all collectively agree we don’t want. It is also well known the suites don’t have great ventilation, so painting mini pumpkins is much easier and can be displayed anywhere! Grabbing some cheap paint from any local dollar store or craft store would make for the perfect Halloween activity. You could take it to the next level by having your night be a “paint-and-sip” where you and your guests drink apple cider while painting the pumpkins!
Dress code
- Make the night even more festive by having everyone dress up! You could have everyone dress in their best Halloween pajamas or step it up and have everyone come in their Halloween costumes. Either way, having that extra detail at your small gathering would make it that much more special.
Movies
- Play a movie! One of the best parts of Halloween is undoubtedly all the spooky movies you can watch. The options are truly endless, but some of my personal favorites are Hocus Pocus, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Halloween Town. Whatever you choose to watch, gathering around a TV, in your suite, dorm, or apartment, is an essential part of any spooky night.
Make Halloween treats
- A good hangout always has good snacks! You can get a pizza or two for your guests, but the main star of the show will always be desserts. Buying a sweet treat is always an option, but you could make a fun activity out of it by making them yourself. You could bake the premade Pillsbury Halloween cookies in the oven up on the 25th floor of 15 Beekman, or get extra fancy and bake from scratch if you have the ingredients. Any sweet treat will be sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Halloween is around the corner, and what better way to get into the Halloween spirit than to host a fun night with your friends? With these fun activities you are sure to have the best night!
