Campus to Park: Why Battery Park is Your New Favorite Study Break

It’s that time of the year where midterm season is upon us. In conjunction with the tedious assignments, readings, and projects professors assign, studying for midterms is the last thing college students want to do during their school week. Luckily for us Pace students, there are plenty of spots around the city to be one with nature and destress! In fact, one of the most scenic running paths is only a short 15-minute walk from campus!

Battery Park, notable for its beautiful view of the harbor, is an oasis away from the demanding environment that is midterm season. Lawns of fresh, green grass to lay on, clear, sunlit sidewalks to run on, and cityscapes overlooking calm blue waters to look at, make for the perfect space to escape. A college student looking for a place to walk and listen to music can find comfort in the tranquil sidewalks alongside people walking their dogs or catching up with a friend. Pace students could even get a small group to enjoy the vistas while having a yap session… something every person can get joy out of.

For those students, like me, who personally find running to be the best stress reliever, battery park offers a great route for about a 4-mile run. I tend to start at the southern tip of the financial district and venture out about 2 miles up where I will then make a loop to make my run back. Another great feature about this running path specifically is that there are a couple water fountains along the way! I personally don’t carry a water bottle with me when I go on runs, so these water fountains are certainly an added bonus.

One of my least favorite parts about running on any trail is that I feel awkward being the only runner on a trail full of people walking – whether that be people walking their dog or just walking to get their steps in. What’s especially great about Battery Park is that so many of the people on the trail are runners as well! This is a great motivator in keeping me running when I see other people pushing themselves as well. The more I push myself, the better I feel! Pace students are sure to feel motivated on this trail as well.

All in all, there are plenty of great running spots around the city, but Battery Park is certainly one of the best. The proximity to campus, scenic views, and accessible paths make for a perfect spot for Pace students to give their brains a break from midterms and come back feeling ready to tackle their textbooks!
